(Tiny Tips) – One of the first things we do with our most visited websites or pages is bookmark them. However, not everyone knows that by converting these bookmarks into desktop shortcuts we can easily open these websites with keyboard shortcuts.
Once set up, you no longer have to move your mouse to open your browser and enter a website URL to open it, or struggle to find it in your bookmarks list. Learn how to create shortcuts to bookmarked pages so you can open them using your favorite keyboard shortcuts.
Open a website using keyboard shortcuts
To create a shortcut to a bookmarked page and open it using a keyboard shortcut, follow these steps:
- Open your favorite browser and go to the website you want to create a shortcut for. (In this example, we’re using Chrome, but the process is the same in Edge and Firefox.)
- Click the star icon next to the website URL.
- Select the desired folder, rename the bookmark, and click “Done.”
- Navigate to your bookmarks by clicking the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of Chrome.
- Drag the bookmark you just created to your desktop.
- Left-click to go to the shortcut’s properties.
- On the Web Document tab, in the Keyboard Shortcuts box, press the keyboard shortcut you want to assign.
- Click Apply and then OK.
If you now press the key combination, the corresponding page will open.
Save time with keyboard shortcuts
This makes it easy to create shortcuts to your favorite websites. Hopefully this method of opening a website directly from a shortcut saves you some time. However, the first time you open a newly created shortcut, you may need to select your preferred browser while pressing the shortcut. So don’t worry.
Doesn’t your keyboard have volume control buttons? Don’t worry! You can also set up custom volume control buttons yourself using third-party software.
