(Tiny Tips) – Download pictures and videos from Threads to iPhone – Meta’s Threads app appears to be one of the most popular competitors to X (formerly known as Twitter) and is filled with fun photos and videos. Like all social media platforms, Threads accounts post everything from cute cat videos to scenic spots to screenshots showing you useful features on your phone. Unfortunately, Threads doesn’t have a native feature for downloading this content to your iPhone, but it’s still easy if you know how.
How to download pictures and videos from Threads to iPhone
If a popular app doesn’t have a built-in download feature, you can bet someone has created a useful shortcut to get the job done. This time it’s @gluebyte who uploaded the Threads download shortcut to RoutineHub. Here’s how it works:
- Make sure you have Apple’s Shortcuts app installed on your iPhone.
- Download and install two more free apps: Scriptable and a-Shell mini.
- Open the Threads app and log in if you’re not already logged in.
- Download the Threads Download shortcut.
- Open the Threads app and long-press on the paper airplane icon under any post. You can scroll down and select “Threads Download” from the shortcut list. Alternatively, you can select Copy, open the Shortcuts app, and tap Threads Download.
- The shortcut will run and ask for some permissions. You can safely allow this.
- Some prompts will appear asking if you want the file to be dated to the publication date or the current date, and if you want to copy the title to the clipboard. Choose your preferred option.
That’s it! The downloaded media files will appear in your photo library. The only limitation is that you can only download media files from public accounts.
To download from a private Threads account, use an iPad
If you want to download something from a private account, you’re out of luck on your iPhone. However, you can also successfully perform the above process on an iPad – the shortcut works for both public and private accounts using the device, and it runs through the less restrictive desktop version of Threads.
